The Accornero family has been making wine for four generations and continues to run its winery with the same passion and dedication which drive great-grandfather Bartolomeo, who was borne in 1839. Bartolomeo Accornero and his wife, Giuseppina Lasagna, owned a modest aricultural holding which borders on the present estate, and had five children. Besides managing his own land,
Bartolomeo helped by his son Giuseppe, looked after the "Palazzo dei conti di Callori" Estate (now home to the Vignale Monferrato regional wine cellar). In 1897, after many years of hard work and clever budgeting, he was able to purchase Cascina Cà Cima, a property then owned by a nobleman named Negri.Giuseppe is son, Giovanni Battista Angelo Accornero, married Alfonsina Coppo and they had a son, Giulio Accornero, who, with his wife Mariuccia and his sons Ermanno and Massimo, now ownsthe estate.
The Place
Cà Cima is situated in pleasant coutryside in the borough of Vignale Monferrato, 308 metres above sea level, and covers an area of 16 hectares all dedicated to the cultivation of vines, the majority of the vineyards being legally controlled and bearing Denomination of Controlled Origin or D.O.C. mark. The vineyards are organically cultivated without the use of chemical fertilisers or pesticides. Natural fertilizers and products which have no damaging effects upon the environment are used, so that the soil maintains its natural defence mechanisms. This reduces yields but guarantees high quality produce. Although the wine-cellar is well-equipped with modern technology, it remains faithful to the traditionnal wine-making processes, producing typical, high quality Monferrato wines.
